re:souvenir

Projects

A collaborative project with artist Nikos Kostopoulos.

Re:souvenir is a collective artistic investigation on the concept of the souvenir, as a medium to recall personal and collective memories.

Our project starts from the text by theorist Alison Landsberg “Prosthetic memory: the ethics and politcs of memory in an age of mass culture” where she introduces the idea of prosthetic memory and its potential to contribute in developing empathy and solidarity among people. In "re:souvenir", we examine the possibility of constructing prosthetic memories through artistic practices in the urban environment. Sonic and visual investigations are employed  as critical tools to examine the public space and the memories that constitute it. The project culminates in the collaborative creation of  souvenirs, as vessels of the memories collected during the workshop.

The project was first presented in the Byzantine bath of Thessaloniki in the context of the 2nd #SKG Bridges Festival. It manifested as a workshop for students and graduates of the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki, Greece, and an exhibition of the collective works which the participants produced during the workshop.
